With 2017 well underway, those promises we made to give up the fags and alcohol and get down to the local gym are already beginning to look like pipe dreams but for one Sheffield Hallam student, quitting masturbation is top of the resolution list.
Joe Bloggs, 22, (real identity anonymous) insists he’s ready to end the 10 year relationship he’s had with his left hand.
“Sometimes I find myself masturbating 4 or 5 times a day and even more when I get a day off.”
Joe says that porn has played a massive part in his addiction and that it sometimes gets in the way of his day to day life.
“I have to go to the library when I want to study now because I’m too tempted at home as I know I’m only two clicks away from a hard on.”
Masturbation has also damaged Joe’s sex life, with the 22 year old insisting he can’t ejaculate during sex anymore.
“I’m so used to my own hand and going at my own speed that I don’t even enjoy sex that much.”
“That’s the main reason I want to quit masturbating as I just find myself feeling disappointed during sex when it’s supposed to be exciting.”
NHS’ Choices website states that whilst masturbation is perfectly healthy in moderation, too much can lead to painful genitals.
Joe has now gone 7 days without giving himself a helping hand and says he wants to keep his pants on for as long as he possibly can.
If you’re worried that masturbation is getting in the way of your work or social life, speak to your local GP for advice.
